The BBC are reportedly ready to axe Vic and Bob’s House of Fools.

Rumours are abound that the duo’s first ever studio sitcom will come to an end after just one series following a rapid decline in ratings.

Viewing figures for House of Fools, which completed its initial six-part run on BBC2 last night, have dropped to less than 700,000 after an initial 1.27m tuned into the first episode.

And after growing speculation about the sitcom’s future, Stephen Fry took to Twitter to launch a campaign to save the show.

Fry wrote: “The BBC I thought, can’t go more insane: now I hear they planning to axe Vic and Bob’s House of Fools. What? Tell them they’re mad. #saveHoF

Thousands of fans have already expressed their anger at the rumours, with many suggesting it would be “crazy” for the BBC to cancel House of Fools.

Martin Dodds (@impofthereverse) said: “Rumours of HoF being axed? The greatest sitcom for years? Can an Idiot do this? #saveHOF Arseholes.”

Lisa Churchman (@churchmouse443) tweeted: “BBC you’re crazy if you axe House of Fools, it’s the funniest programme you have. #SaveHoF”

While Spencer Pritchard (@SpenPritchard) added: “So, the list of shows that the Beeb wants shot of grows. What’s next? It’s YOUR license fee people, speak up! #SaveRipperStreet #SaveHoF”

If you’re a fan of the show, as well as using the #saveHoF hashtag, you can make your feelings known by sending an ‘Appreciation’ using the BBC’s own feedback page.

Jason Cook has previously stated that fan appreciations helped secure a second series for his BBC2 sitcom, Hebburn.

It would appear that any comedy of real class is under threat after the first series. House of fools along with stuart lees comedy vehicle are the two funniest shows since the last time both were on telly in previous guises. What is wrong with the people of the uk never mind the bbc that dont find these shows finny..they make us fans the outsiders of society for being fans when i believe its the other 99% who dont watch that are missing out.

I’ve emailed the BBC. Hopefully we get another series of this great show. Looking forward to the dvd release

First you axe shooting stars which is the only amazingly funny and unique quiz show yet show the worlds most boring one eggheads all week long. Shooting stars was once a week and it was so different and refreshing but you keep ones that are all the same, and now you want to axe house of fools?! Its really funny and really unpredictable. Vic and Bob are legends. Please don’t get rid of something so different and belly achingly funny unlike shows with canned laughter because they simply aren’t funny!

It was rubbish. Getting better ratings than Hebburn isn’t exactly saying much, too!

Happy to report I’ve been using the hashtag, and was in toich with Auntie Beeb this afternoon to express my appreciation for s1 and hopes for s2. Also rewatched four eps today. Classic Vic and Bob, it would be a crime to axe it.

The powers that are the BBC commision more of this brilliance (you twats)

They dont choose to renew this show but if they choose to carry on that show with thw australian bloke dressed as a woman the bbc has gone mad !! That show is about as funny as a funeral !

My kids love this show! 5 and 8

It’s such a fresh off the wall comedy no real bad language great characters and some nice headnods to the youngones and other great shows

To condemn it would be the biggest crime of all, better still put it on a reasonable time so we wouldn’t have to record it thats what probably fucked up the viewing figures
