Teesdale comedy promoters Funny Way To Be have announced a work-in-progress show from Lee Nelson.

In his first ever appearance in Barnard Castle, Nelson – real name Simon Brodkin – will road-test new material at The Witham on Wednesday 29 October ahead of a national tour in 2015.

Funny Way To Be only recently announced a work-in-progress show from Russell Kane after successful new material nights from TV comedians Russell Howard and Chris Ramsey last year.

Organiser Peter Dixon said he was delighted to be bringing another big name to Barnard Castle.

“We are very excited to be bringing another big name in the comedy world to our small rural venue,” he said.

“It will be wonderful to be amongst the very first to see Lee Nelson develop his character ahead of a major tour.

“Anyone who saw him on John Bishop’s TV Christmas show will know that Lee is casting aside the shorts and wearing a suit!  He’s growing up but just as funny and I’m certain our audience will love him.”

Funny Way To Be’s 2014 comedy season gets underway tomorrow night at The Witham with a comedy club show from Andrew O’Neill, Paul F Taylor, Tommy Rowson and Alfie Joey.

Tickets for that show are still available, priced £8.

Tickets for Lee Nelson (WIP) go on general sale at 10am on Monday 10 February from funnywaytobe.com, priced £17.50.
