Luke Perry is to play a former rock God in a new British comedy film, Giggle Beats can exclusively reveal.
Known to many as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills 90210, the American actor will start filming in London later this month.
The Beat Beneath My Feet is about a teenage boy who discovers that a former rock God who faked his own death ten years ago lives beneath him in his flat in South London.
When the boy realises the true identity of his downstairs neighbour, who disappeared owing a fortune to the Inland Revenue, he begins blackmailing him.
Talking to Giggle Beats shortly after signing Luke Perry, producer Fiona Gillies said: “He’s a nineties cultural icon, so he fits in perfectly with playing a former rock god who has disappeared and resurfaces in a flat in South London.”
Production of the film is scheduled to start in London on 30 September.
Legendry music producer Tony Visconti, who produced many of David Bowie’s albums, will work on the original music with composer Geoff Jackson.
The announcement coincides with the UK television premiere of City Slacker, in which Gillies starred and co-produced.
In City Slacker, Gillies plays a workaholic businesswoman who becomes desperate to have a baby when her frozen eggs are destroyed in a fire.
Many of the production team from City Slacker will reunite for The Beat Beneath My Feet, which will also be written by Michael Muller.
City Slacker premieres on Sky Movies on 13 September, and The Beat Beneath My Feet is scheduled for release next year. Click for further information about both projects.
