Sarah Millican is the subject of tonight’s edition of Who Do You Think You Are?

Millican, originally from South Shields, filmed the BBC programme, which look at the family histories of celebrities, in June.

The journey takes her from her parents’ house to Kent, where she discovers that her three-times great-grandfather was one of the very first divers in the 1800s.

The show also takes Millican to Canada, where she makes a shocking discovery about an ancestor who worked in the fur trade.

Speaking about her journey, Millican says: “I hope that it’s something positive and nice and something we can be proud of.

“I’m proud to be from the North East. I think it’s important to remember where you come from.”

Millican is about to embark on a UK tour, Home Bird, and the third series of her BBC Two chat show The Sarah Millican Television Programme will air in the autumn.

Who Do You Think You Are? will be broadcast on BBC One tonight at 9pm, and will be available to watch soon after on the BBC iPlayer. Click to watch a clip.
