A one-woman parody of infamous erotic trilogy Fifty Shades Of Grey is to debut in Newcastle next week.
Written by Leesa Harker, 51 Shades of Maggie tells the story of Maggie Muff and her search for love.
Attending an interview at the Social Security Office, Maggie meets the handsome and hunky Mr Big.
Adele Silva, who played Kelly Windsor in the ITV soap Emmerdale for over a decade, plays Maggie in the new UK tour and compares the character to Geordie Shore‘s Charlotte.
“She’s like Maggie. She’s really likeable, honest and ‘out there’.”
Talking to Giggle Beats about the show, which opens at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, on 10 September, Silva said: “If people – either male or female – want a fun night out, it’s a laugh a minute.”
Asked about the erotic nature of EL James’ trilogy of books, Silva says: “Everything is done in the most comical way; even though it seems a sexy, explicit subject, it’s done in the funniest manner.
“It’s quite funny because I think a lot of people are disappointed.”
Silva is excited at the prospect of appearing in a one-woman show, although was slightly intimated when she first got the part.
“It’s a massive challenge as an actress, but I’m really looking forward to it,” she said.
The play was forced to alter its name this year following a complaint from EL James’ lawyers.
James, who has sold over 70 million books worldwide, requested that the producers change the name of the play to avoid any confusion with the Fifty Shades trilogy.
The new UK tour opens at Newcastle before visiting a range of cities, including York, Scarborough, Darlington, and Grimsby.
51 Shades of Maggie runs at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle 10-14 Sep 2013. Click to read our full interview with Adele Silva.
