This Saturday comedians including Hebburn actor Steffen Peddie, Lost Voice Guy and Britain’s Got Talent contestant Cal Halbert will descend on Ouseburn Valley for a free comedy showcase at The Cluny 2 in Newcastle.

Organised by comedian Simon Buglass, the first Creased Comedy Festival will begin at 12 noon and run until around 11pm.

And here’s the full programme:

12pm-1pm: The Early Show kicks off this year’s Creased Comedy Festival, as up and coming North East acts try to tickle your funny bone.

1.15pm-2.15pm: Hebburn actor Steffen Peddie, who plays Big Keith in the BBC2 sitcom, has the first ‘proper’ show of the festival. With a colourful life behind him, you’re invited to hear about the trials and tribulations of wearing spandex in public, accidentally assaulting teenagers and being a father of four. Why not, eh?

2.30pm-3.30pm: After 18 years getting good, Silky blew a year’s rent bringing his first solo hour to Edinburgh last year. He’s doing it all again this August, but not before a quick trip to Newcastle with his new show, It Was This Show or Have Kids.

3.45pm-4.45pm: North East comedian Tony Jameson hosts a preview version of his first solo show, Football Manager Ruined My Life.

5pm-6pm: Nominated for Best New Show in Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival awards, Lee Ridley’s Voice of Choice is a lovely little tea-time treat. Ridley, who performs as Lost Voice Guy, has cerebral palsy and cannot speak. Instead he performs stand-up using an iPad, and we think he’s bloody good.

6.15pm-7.15pm: It’s funny hats and glasses with musical comedian Stephen Frizzle and North East ‘gangster rapper’ Biscuitz.

7.30pm-8.30pm: To be announced.

8.45pm-late: Lauren Pattison and Jonathan Pelham both have the Giggle Beats seal of approval, and they head up a Late Show hosted by organiser Simon Buglass. We’re told that former Britain’s Got Talent impressionist Cal Halbert is on the bill too, so this one’s worth sticking around for.

Adopting Edinburgh’s Free Fringe ethos, there will be no door charges for any of the shows, however voluntary contributions can be made at the end of each performance – if you like what you see.

Buglass said: “We’re proper excited for the festival on Saturday.

“It’ll be great for comedy fans in the region to see shows by some exceptional stand-ups, for free, before anywhere else in the country.

“It’s also a great opportunity for acts to fine tune their shows before taking them to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.”

Continuing our commitment to grass-roots comedy in the North East, Giggle Beats are supporting the free one-day festival.

The event coincides with the return of Ouseburn Festival, a community event aimed at promoting businesses and community spirit in the Ouseburn Valley.

Ouseburn Festival takes place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July, with a range of entertainment for all the family.

All events are free entry.
