A great impression

If you can’t do impressions,  you clearly had toys as a child. North East comedians Alfie Joey and Cal Halbert, on the other hand, were more than happy sat in a room on their own.

The Mimic Men – as they call themselves – are now bringing their repertoire of voices together to create a comedy collaboration of sports stars, politicians and fellow comics.

“I think it’s about time a new double-act came about”, Halbert (Britain’s Got Talent) tells us. “It’s like starting comedy all over again – it’s terrifying!”

His double-act partner, Alfie Joey (Hebburn, Ideal), says that he is “very, very excited” about the new show.

The pair are hoping their new show – which debuts at Jesterval on 6 June –  will have something for everyone.

“It’s a veritable feast of sketches, stand-up and spot-on imitations,” Halbert says.

“When I first pitched the idea to Alfie we were both excited, yet had no idea how we would be on stage. We’re just very lucky it was so natural and relaxed.”

Both Joey and Halbert live on Tyneside but can be found performing all over the country at The Comedy Store, Jongluers, Glee Club and Newcastle’s own The Hyena and The Stand.

Tickets for The Imitation Game are on sale now, priced £5.
