Citizen Khan wins big at 2014 RTS North West Awards

Citizen Khan has scooped two awards at the 2014 RTS North West Awards.

The BBC One sitcom was awarded Best Comedy Programme at a ceremony in Manchester, retaining its crown after winning the same award last year.

And Citizen Khan star Adil Ray, who co-hosted the event at The Hilton on Deansgate, won Best Performance In A Comedy – an award he too scooped just 12 months ago for his role as Mr Khan.

A clearly delighted Ray tweeted: “Oh my days! #CitizenKhan just won Best Comedy and another one at the Royal Television Awards ! #RTSNW”

Jon Simm (Prey), Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) and Alison King (Coronation Street) were the other big winners in the regional television awards.

Series three of Citizen Khan is currently airing on Friday nights at 8.30pm.
