Couldn’t get a ticket for the star studded Sunday for Sammy concerts in February? No matter – you can now catch up on an unforgettable night of North East entertainment on DVD.

Comedians who took part in the 2014 show include Hebburn creator Jason Cook and local legend Brendan Healy, while sketch fans can spot the star as Chris Ramsey, Viz co-creator Simon Donald, Charlie Hardwick, Charles Lawson, Angie Lonsdale and Joe Caffrey all appear.

The biennial concerts commemorate local actor Sammy Johnson, one of the stars of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

Proceeds from DVD sales help fund the Sunday for Sammy Trust, which supports young performers in the region.

This year, legendary sitcom writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais contributed an Auf Wiedersehen, Pet sketch, where cast members Tim Healy, Kevin Whately Christopher Fairbank and Julia Tobin where joined by guests including Denise Welch, Brendan Foster, Glen McCrory and Bob Moncur.

While Hebburn star Cook has good reason to thank Sunday for Sammy – he is a former grantee.

Jason said: “The grant we received from Sunday for Sammy and the opportunity they gave us to perform at the City Hall was the moment I decided to go into show business full time.

“Without the encouragement given by Sunday for Sammy, I really doubt that I’d be doing what I do now.”

Sunday for Sammy 2014 DVDs are available from JG Windows in Newcastle, Metro Centre & Darlington, and from selected branches of HMV and That’s Entertainment.
