Jason Cook’s BBC Two sitcom Hebburn is to get a US remake.

Adam Sandler’s Happy Maddison Productions have bought the rights to develop an American version of the Geordie show for ABC, with scriptwriter Tom Hertz writing the episodes.

Cook said: “It’s very exciting to think we might be telling the story on the other side of the world, and with such comedy heavyweights behind it as well.”

Hebburn, which starred Vic Reeves, Gina McKee, Chris Ramsey and Kimberley Nixon, was axed by BBC Two last year after two series.
