House of Fools COULD return
Bob Mortimer says rumours that House of Fools has been axed are premature.
Speculation has spread that Vic and Bob’s BBC Two sitcom, which ended its six-part run on Monday, will come to an end after a rapid decline in viewing figures from an initial 1.27m to less than 700,000.
But Mortimer, who starred in the show alongside Vic Reeves, Morgana Robinson, Matt Berry and Dan Skinner, says he has “heard nothing” about the mooted cancellation.
Posting on Twitter, Mortimer wrote: “I’ve heard nothing about HOF being axed… I think the people at the beeb really like it!”
Stephen Fry first tweeted about the rumours and, on Wednesday, launched a social media campaign to save the show.
He posted: “The BBC I thought, can’t go more insane: now I hear they planning to axe Vic and Bob’s House of Fools. What? Tell them they’re mad. #saveHoF”
And, writing in the Giggle Beats comments section, our readers were quick to speak up against the decision, which many have branded as “crazy”.
Stephen Donaldson posted: “It would appear that any comedy of real class is under threat after the first series. House of Fools along with Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle are the two funniest shows since the last time both were on telly in previous guises.”
Amanda commented: “Vic and Bob are legends. Please don’t get rid of something so different and belly achingly funny unlike shows with canned laughter because they simply aren’t funny!”
Simon Bromley said: “Classic Vic and Bob, it would be a crime to axe it.”
Paul Morris wrote: “It was rubbish. Getting better ratings than Hebburn isn’t exactly saying much, too!”
While Karlos added: “If the Beeb don’t renew Vic ‘n Bob’s new show then we’ll know who the REAL House of Fools are.”
Vic and Bob fans can show their support for House of Fools by sending an ‘Appreciation’ using the BBC’s own feedback page.
