Making politics fun! Pascoe and Monahan to attend Carlisle fundraiser
Sara Pascoe and Patrick Monahan are previewing their Fringe shows at the ‘Stand up for Labour’ fundraising event in Carlisle.
Sara Pascoe, who has appeared on Live at the Apollo, The Thick of It, and Twenty Twelve, will be previewing her show, Sara Pascoe vs the Truth. The show looks at how evidence can be manipulated.
Patrick Monahan will take his new show Cake Charmer to the Gilded Balloon at the Fringe.
Speaking to Giggle Beats, Monahan said: “Carlisle is such a lovely part of the world; it’s always a pleasure to visit there, and even better to perform there.
“They have an amazing sense of humour.”
City councillor Lee Sherriff, who is hoping to replace Conservative John Stevenson as MP for Carlisle at the next general election, said it was brilliant that well-known comedians such as Patrick and Sara are coming to Carlisle to perform.
“I believe that the best way to get people to work together is to socialise together. What better way than belly laughs from a stand up night?”
Monahan shares the sentiment, saying: “If all politics was as fun as doing the Stand up for Labour gigs, there wouldn’t be a deficit in the British economy!”
Pascoe, meanwhile, says that she likes how the events attract a “wider section of society than would normally come to a gig – and I get to learn a lot about local politics and modern socialism!”
Stand up for Labour events across the country have attracted high-profile names such as Tony Law, Arthur Smith, Steve Day, Adam Bloom, Norman Lovett, Shappi Khorsandi, Hal Cruttenden and Andi Osho.
A similar event in Newcastle is on the cards, with another at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket scheduled for October.
The event in Carlisle is open to the public.
Tickets are £12.
Stand up for Labour will be held at the Calva Bar, University of Cumbria on 28 July 2013. Click for tickets and details of other Stand Up for Labour events.
