Geordie comedian Gavin Webster is bringing his annual stand-up show to the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre.

Webster has built a loyal following in the North East over the years, in part due to his weekly Northumbrian Assembly shows at the Newcastle Stand.

And the comedian, who makes an appearance in Sky Atlantic comedy Starlings later this year, has announced a one-off date at the Tyne Theatre on 4 October – six days before Stewart Lee plays the venue.

Writing on his blog, Webster said: “I’ve got a few things up my sleeve for this season and indeed this year…

“I’m at the Tyne Theatre this year on 4 October; there’ll be a deal for everyone hopefully even if you have to book early on.”

Traditionally Webster writes two hours of new material for the show, with support from the cream of North East comedy.

Last year it was Andy Fury, who releases a weekly podcast with Hebburn actor Steffen Peddie.

And this year support comes from former Giggle Beats New Act of the Month Lee Kyle.

Kyle is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time this summer alongside local acts Jonathan Pelham and Simon Buglass. Their three-hander, Pretty on the Inside, is at The Stand 4 from noon.

Speaking to Giggle Beats about the Tyne Theatre show, Kyle said: “I’m really looking forward to it and was pleased to be asked.

“Gavin is an incredible comic – one of the best around in my opinion – and supporting him at such a historic venue is a career highlight for me.

“I will try not to ruin it.”

Webster also confirmed on his blog that he is releasing a follow-up to his first comedy CD, Gavin Webster’s Northumbrian Assembly: Volume 1.

He said: “The reason I wanted to do a CD is because I wanted to have a record of my work – the stuff that I tend not to do live.

“The short burst songs, the monologues, the sketches – basically the stuff I do on a Sunday night at The Stand that I can’t do on the mainstream circuit.”

He added: “There’ll be another CD coming out in the summer and perhaps one at Christmas.

“All on top of driving here, there and everywhere doing gigs to keep the mortgage paid.  No wonder the dog growls at me every time I walk out of my office!”

Tickets for Gavin Webster’s Tyne Theatre show on 4 October are £14. For more information, see: millvolvotynetheatre.co.uk
