A match made in Hebburn: Ramsey joins cast of Cook’s sitcom.
Stand-up Chris Ramsey has joined the cast of BBC Two sitcom Hebburn.
Ramsey, from South Shields, will play the lead role of ‘Jason’ in the six-part series loosely based on Jason Cook’s life, with Vic Reeves, Kimberley Nixon (Fresh Meat) and North East stand-up Steffen Peddie also set to star in the Tyneside sitcom.
Cook himself will appear as “lovable rogue Ramsey”, a character inspired by Chris Ramsey.
Cook told Giggle Beats: “We’ve got such a great team working on the show, and I’ll be working with some of my comedy heroes, too; so the pressure is on to not let them, or the people of the North East, down.
“Having Jim Moir [Vic Reeves] and Chris Ramsey on board will be a perfect complement to the people we’re already working with.”
Speaking about Hebburn, Kristian Smith, BBC Executive Editor Comedy Commissioning, added: “We are delighted to be bringing Hebburn to BBC Two. Not only does it bring back the warm heart of the North East to sitcom, but also delivers a charming and funny comedy about a grown up family with a fantastic cast attached.”
Filming for Hebburn begins next month.
