Andy Clark

To date, New Act of the Month Andy Clark has somewhere in the region of 40 gigs under his belt, one of which includes the final of this year’s So You Think You’re Funny competition. He describes his current set as ‘observationalsillybutabitswearyfun’, though naturally it just keeps changing. Andrew Dipper caught up with Andy to find out more about our New Act of the Month for December.

How and why did you get into comedy? I got into comedy after meeting John Smith [of The Grinning Idiot Club] with a view to picking his brains re. how to get started. A couple of pints later after an over-the-table audition, I had my first gig booked. I got into it when I realised that most stages are sufficiently elevated to allow the acts a temporary feeling of smugness and superiority over the audience…and a nice view down the ladies’ tops!

Where do you want to be in five years’ time? Being a recognised name on the circuit would be nice with gigs further afield, but it certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world if I was still doing exactly this. I love the stand up and everything else in my life at the moment.

If you could gig with one comedian who would it be? Arthur Askey, as long as he didn’t sing!

Are you a Tweeter? God, no! I’m a Luddite – I have enough problems with Facebook (a necessary evil).

Where can we see you next? I’m at The Black Horse in Beamish on 2nd Dec and I’ve got several slots at the Newcastle Stand coming up in January, too. Happy days.

A great act. Makes stand-up look like renaissance period art. But let’s not take anything away from the foreign painters. Except perhaps their paint with a dangerously high lead content.

I still can’t belive Clarky is a comedian. being one of the first poeple to ever got one fo his drunken jokes many many years back, I wish him the best of luck and juist a pity I no longer live in th UK to see him live, I’d seen him play drums often enough.

Good luck Mr. C. Wishing you all the best.

    Kelly.
